A good British film. Beautifully shot in the North East of England showing a side of the UK which is rarely seen on screen. This is basically a relationship drama between 2 female flatmates and the ups and downs of their life as they find love. I have read somewhere that the director lives in the north east of England and this shows in the photogenic locations that have been carefully picked to portray this drama. Parts of the film (the scenes with the landlord come to mind) are reminiscent of the famous 'kitchen sink dramas' of the 1960's which made stars of actors such as Albert Finney. It is quite slow paced compared with a lot of big Hollywood films, but it kept me engrossed from start to finish. I could definitely watch this one again.

A good script, unpredictable plot, firm direction and nuanced performances. Gives a fresh spin on Newcastle that has been seen many a time before in portraits of British cities. Nice music too!

This was a real drama. Much better than I had expected. I don't mind saying that it brought a few tears to my eyes after a roller-coaster ride showing life as it really can be. Not glossed over but gritty and real. It deals with problems, stresses and depression in a touching and insightful way. It does the subject justice. Well written, well directed and well acted. I felt that I really knew the lead characters by the end and had experienced their suffering and joy in a very personal way. I would recommend this but warn that it is not a superficial eye-candy lightweight movie and it is for a mature audience.
