Kuhusu filamu hii

EQUAL MEANS EQUAL is an unflinching look at how women are treated in the United States today. By following both real life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, director Kamala Lopez discovers how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence seemingly disparate issues, from workplace matters to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to the foster care system, the healthcare system and the legal system. Along the way, she reveals the inadequacy of present laws in place that claim to protect women, ultimately presenting a compelling and persuasive argument for the urgency of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.

This film is a great conversation starter, especially for generations of Americans who have little or no recollection of the campaign to pass the Equal Rights Amendment back in the 1970s and 1980s. Though the documentary does not explicitly finger the Religious Right as playing a large part in the defeat of the ERA, I will. As an evangelical Christian and a former full-time pastor for more than a dozen years, I'm deeply saddened that people from my faith community did (and continue to do) much to undermine women's legal rights. But it's much more than that; the failure to change the Constitution made it harder, in my opinion, to change the culture of male privilege and women-as-second-class-citizens that still defines daily American life. Thank you to Kamala Lopez, Gini Sikes, Patricia Arquette, and the team that put this together. LET'S GET IT PASSED!
