Ernest and Celestine is a charming hand drawn animation that tells the story of the unlikely friendship between a musical bear and an artistic mouse. Although the world of the bears sits directly above the underground mouse city, contact between the two populations is strictly forbidden. Marginalized in their respective societies, Ernest and Celestine meet through a chance encounter at a rubbish bin, and form a pact of mutual benefit. Their ensuing adventures lead them awry of the law; they vandalize a sweet shop and a tooth shop, and they steal a van, but the worst crime of all is the accusation of fraternizing with the opposite species.
When the fugitives are finally discovered and brought to court, extraordinary circumstances force both the mouse and bear worlds to reconcile their prejudices and acknowledge the triumphant union of Ernest and Celestine. 2012 Les Armateurs/ Maybe Movies/ Studiocanal/ France 3 Cinema/ La Parti Production/ Melusine Productions/ RTBF (Television Belge)
