Professori Albus Dumbledore (Law) tietää, että pimeyden velho Gellert Grindelwald (Mikkelsen) yrittää saada velhomaailmaa haltuunsa. Dumbledore ei kykene pysäyttämään häntä yksin, joten hän lähettää taikazoologi Lisko Scamanderin (Redmayne) johtaman velhojen, noitien ja yhden urhean jästileipurin pelottoman tiimin vaaralliselle tehtävälle, jonka aikana he kohtaavat vanhoja sekä uusia petoja ja taistelevat Gindewaldin seuraajien kasvavaa legioonaa vastaan.
