Oscar nominated Carey Mulligan stars as a headstrong young woman in this passionate romantic drama, based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy. Mulligan plays Bathsheba Everdene, an independent heiress who attracts three very different suitors: a strapping sheep farmer (Matthias Schoenaerts), a handsome and reckless Sergeant (Tom Sturridge), and a prosperous mature bachelor (Michael Sheen).

This movie was so original, and refreshing. It had unexpected twists and a gravity to it that I didn't see coming. I wanted to see it in cinema but didn't get the chance -I'm glad I followed it up. Really one of the best movies I've seen this year.

Well acted and well cast. Main character is a bit annoying and makes obviously bad decisions but if you’re wanting a quiet, romantic film to loose yourself in this will suit you.

The integrity of the main male character makes him extraordinarily attractive. It was wonderful that his character remained intact throughout the movie. True love was displayed through his character, which is rarely seen in present day romances. If you liked the 2004 British 'North & South' and want a love story with depth, that allows you to see the development of love, this one is for you.
