About this movie

When the world was in turmoil, three men went faster and farther than anyone thought possible. This is the story of the first people to leave the Earth and travel to the Moon, this is Apollo 8. In 1968 the battle for civil rights was turning Americans upon each other, the Vietnam War was raging, and the whole world felt the grip of the Cold War. Despite the odds, NASA made the bold decision to send Apollo 8 to the Moon ahead of schedule. This documentary tells the amazing story of the Apollo 8 mission and the three men that crewed it. Through restored archival films and audio, Apollo 8 Astronauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders tell you in their own words how their three different stories got them into the same tiny capsule pointed at the Moon — and what happened next.

This is an absolutely stunning remembrance of one of the most significant, important events in the entire history of humankind. The most significant point made is not only the ultimate grandeur of space and the view of the Earth in the “Earthrise” photos, but, rather, the fact that the very existence of Earth, no matter how beautiful it be from the Moon...or during the on trek thereto...it and all of its inhabitants are so tiny as to be totally insignificant within the enormity and grandeur of the Universe.
