World champion boxer Max Schmeling (portrayed by real-life boxing legend Henry Maske) was a symbol of German strength and superiority, but because of his outspoken views against the Nazi regime, he was forced out of the ring and onto the battlefield. Fearless, uncompromising and forthright to the last, Schmeling would eventually become one of most unlikely heroes of WWII, but not before losing everything to the Third Reich.
