This one of Denzel Washington's finest films. I would even go further and say this is a pure classic film that will still be great to watch 50 years from now. It rolls with pure intensity and plows through without missing a beat. Through the direction of Robert Zemeckis, he is able to bring together a story that captures every human emotion known to man. At the same time bring such visual awe that leaves the audience hooked. It also reveals one man's personal struggles that wraps it's ugly head around him and doesn't let go until he finds redemption within himself. So everything one could want in a action/drama gets it here. There is also some comic relief from John Goodman, who plays a loyal foul mouthed drug dealer. His performance takes a little edge off the intensity that this film brings. These are the kind films that should be delivered in higher bulk loads from Hollywood.

I guess when you have had as distinguished of a career in acting as Denzel Washington has had you can afford to phone in your performance and star in a piece of shit film without shame. I do not blame Mr. Washington at all. Try as he might, and I do think he was trying in Flight, he cannot wreck his good name as one of the greatest leading men of all time in Hollywood. Flight is just a steaming pile of trump with it's two dimensional characters and hollow plot and there is only so much you can do with those limitations even if you're willing and I don't think Denzel was. Will definitely watch the first five minutes again only to see Nadine Velazquez' beautiful performance. Beyond that, not so much.

I'm a big Zemeckis and Washington fan so I was excited to see the pairing. Unfortunately the combination with a dismal script produced unsympathetic characters and a torturous journey to an anticlimactic ending. If you'd like to see a good "getting sober" movie, if recommend Sandra Bullocks in 28 Days. This, however, wasn't worth the pain. Save your time.
