À propos de ce film

Based on the incredible true story Meryl Streep delivers a hilarious and touching performance as a New York socialite who dreams of becoming a great opera singer. While the voice she hears in her head is beautiful to everyone else it is hilariously awful. Her husband and biggest fan St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant) is determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence stages a huge concert at Carnegie Hall he faces his greatest challenge to make sure her performance hits all the right notes.

There is a scene where a 3000 strong concert audience doesn't know whether the thing they are watching is meant to be comedy or drama, satire or serious. That sums up the film audience reaction too: none of the characters are likeable or deep enough to care about, and the film is mostly just as awkward and dull to watch as its subject was in real life.

I loved every minute. I never knew this opera singer ever existed. She believed that she could sing, so she will live on in history as a famous opera singer. I believe that this singer just had a genre that has not yet been adopted by the music industry. Very inspiring. People can say that she couldn't sing, but they can never say that she didn't sing.

This was a great movie. Hugh and Meryl did very well at these characters. I can't even imagine what Meryl went through learning to sing the way Florence did; Meryl has a lovely voice. The story was enriching and just felt so moving by the time the journey was done. It is a slowish storyline and you must be open to understanding the difference of the era, but it is worth it.
