Foxcatcher tells the story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave (Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Desperate to gain the respect of his disapproving mother, du Pont begins "coaching" a world-class athletic team and, in the process, lures Mark into dangerous habits, breaks his confidence and drives him into a self-destructive spiral.

Stunk!!! (SPOILER ALERT) In real life there was a massive standoff that lasted many hrs if not days with Dupont in his tank! However Hollywood chose not to show this gift of a " Hollywood Ending". Instead they produced an extremely dull flick and left out the ending. I was so disappointed, I grew up 10 mins. From the dupont estates, saw this going down in real life, and couldn't wait to see it on screen. However it fell flat and left out the best part. Very dissapointed :-(

The movie has a lot of S L O W moments. Too much is implied. I remember this murder. However Duponts character wasn't the spooky guy described in all that I read.....with dyed Ronald McDonald red hair....bad teeth with foul breath.....where food could be visibly seen rotting. Its almost as if the murder was okay as the press and wrestling association points out how he donated thousands in a time when athletes didn't make that much money. The movie "hints" at sexual abuse of Dupont.

Many have said that Carell's performance was transformative; we saw little he hasn't already given us in The Office and his other movies. Many have said the story and investigation into the complexity of DuPont's relationship drew them in; we saw little exploration and often wanted more than the flat scenes between Tatum and Carell. Tatum was decent; Ruffalo stole all of his scenes. But really not much there at all. Certainly not an award contender.
