Sweeney) is assigned to the unit, he becomes a surrogate son toSgt. Clell Hazard (Caan) and Sgt. Major "Goody" Nelson (Jones). The older men must prepare the younger for the deadly environment of war. Meanwhile, Hazard begins a love affair with an anti-war newspaper reporter (Huston) and Willow rekindles a romance with a former college sweetheart (Mary Stuart Masterson). Against a backdrop of protest, uncertainty and violence, the war at home and the war abroad intersect with unforgettable consequences. As i am currently Stationed in Delta Company 1/3, This movie shows me the tradition I have to live up to. Great movie and will tell fellow soldiers about this movie and have them watch it. Very accurate and extremely close to our missions.

Probably as good an illustration of the day to day life of an American soldier. James Caan plays a tough guy NCO, and James Earl Jones plays a borderline screwball Sergeant Major. Both are brilliant......
