If I could I'd give this 3-1/2 stars because of Colin Firth's performance. It's very difficult to depict the act of writing on screen (which this movie does not attempt to do) but the film did a brilliant job of depicting the editing process. Colin Firth was superb as the legendary editor, Maxwell Perkins. Jude Law was miscast as the dark, brooding, towering (in physique and personality) novelist Thomas Wolfe. As characterized in this film, Aline Bernstein, a brilliant stage designer who should be far better known, became little more than a sex-hungry, jealous shrew.

This was a very intent but not I know that's contradictory but it was the fact that the story wonderful actress beautiful about Thomas Wolfe the writer and the editor who edited so many books Mr Max Perkins... He had edited books for Hemingway Scott Fitzgerald xcetera and never wanted the publicity or never one of the same it was more like a father figure and put them at the movies made about his relationship with Thomas Wolfe and himself because mr. Perkins always wanted a son but he had five daughters but he loves his family so dearly it's a beautiful intense but very educational and shows just how a literary world can affect the people around you how consuming one can be and yet how wild one could be at the same time it's an extraordinary movie I recommend it highly
