Comedian Jack Benny and Anne Sheridan star with Academy Award winner Hattie McDaniel (Gone with the Wind) in a hilarious screen adaptation of the hit Broadway play George Washington Slept Here. When inveterate antique collector Connie Fuller (Sheridan) finds a house in upstate New York in which U.S. President George Washington once spent a night, she sees a gem in need of a little polish. But her husband, urbanite Bill Fuller (Benny), finds only suffering when the couple leaves his beloved city for what he considers a ramshackle bungalow in the wilderness. Now, will their marriage survive the never-ending surprises of home ownership?

Enjoyed the movie, because it was made in the 1940's, but it's far from 5 stars. It's pretty far from 4 stars, but it's ok to watch. I've been doing things backwards due to the pricing. I purchased this movie, but rented others that I absolutely loved, because of the price. In future, I'll have to buy the ones I think I'll truly enjoy. I'm not saying don't watch it. I'm just saying if you enjoy old movies, you're probably better off renting this one.

Very funny and enjoyable. Five star value. All the stars are really very good. I've watched it three times already.
