À propos de ce film

Now featured in stunning high-definition, this edition celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the original manga. In the year 2029, the world has become interconnected by a vast electronic network that permeates every aspect of life. That same network also becomes a battlefield for Tokyo's Section Nine security force, which has been charged with apprehending the master hacker known only as the Puppet Master. Spearheading the investigation is Major Motoko Kusanagi, who - like many in her department - is a cyborg officer, far more powerful than her human appearance would suggest. The Puppet Master, who is capable of hacking human minds, leaves a trail of victims robbed of their memories. Soon, Motoko begins to ponder the very nature of her existence: Is she purely an artificial construct, or is there more? What exactly is the ghost? Is it her essence in her cybernetic shell?

I believe I saw this film for the first time, late at night on Adult Swim, growing up as a pre-teen. I continue to watch this film again and again. So much culture manifested from this movie. So many things became real because of this movie. Truly a paradigm shift in storytelling. Still one of the best Anime movies ever made. And I prefer this still over the reality remake; the soundtrack and artistic tone in the original Anime has much more of a storyteller tone -- much more than in the Hollywood blockbuster reality remake. Like comparing the original The Hobbit animation cartoon movie, to the saga reality remake today. There is just something about the artistic language. That is why this film gets five stars. Thank you 25th Anniversary Edition.

Here's the problem with the subtitles here: They aren't actual subtitles. They're closed captions of the English dub. The subtitles of the original Japanese version included in the Manga releases-- yeah, they're not perfect, but they're perfectly alright. But what we have here is a double problem-- the subtitles aren't actual burned in subtitles, but included in the closed captions that obscure the screen and come up in weird places. And the translation here corresponds to the English dub script, rather than a proper translation. It's just a weird, amateurish thing to do.

I have to admit I saw some of the drawings that became this in I think 93 or 94 at a painting and drawing thing that Shirow did. His use of ink and watercolour is amazing to get the effects he does. Pen and Ink capture the technical details while the watercolour captures the humanity of it all. He sort of uses the same approach in Appleseed to great effect. The two universes have much in common theme wise.
