Octavia Spencer joins a celebrated cast in this wonderfully moving film. Frank Adler, a single man (Chris Evans), is dedicated to raising his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace), a child prodigy. But Frank and Mary’s happy life together is threatened when Mary’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of her grandmother (Lindsay Duncan) – who has other plans for her granddaughter.

Struggles of families with gifted children summed up in a somewhat plausible, but improbable, tidy package. Doesn't shy away from the depression issues and self imposed stresses driving gifted people. The school scenario posed for being ill equipped to nurture math abilities was short sided for me. Issues with differing opinions within family on guiding children in general are explored fairly. Reviewer's tearjerker comments are surely driven by the calculated use of a one-eyed cat. Fortunately, Lucky, was eliminated from the list of cat names to choose from. I'm glad for the online availability and that we found and watched the movie.

I have to pay $5 to watch this with my Google pay account and it is available for 99 cents on my other accounts. Tells me that people at Google are in fact sons of bitches. I will do without. Take this movie and shove it up your ass.

Meh. I usually don't review these things, but the shakycam annoyed me more than any film since that crappy Bourne one. I understand they're trying to make it seem like I'm watching over someone's shoulder etc., but jeez, if I'm ever that unsteady on my feet, I hope someone will take me to the ER. Loose end -- what about the other cats? He takes them from the shelter, then ... they're never seen nor mentioned again. On the plus side, it was refreshing to see ethnicity treated mostly sanely and matter-of-factly. And, if this film inspires some kid to tackle the Millenium Prize problems, then that will be a net boon. Entertaining? Yeh, kinda. Watch again? No, thanks. Do I wish I had that hour and 45 minutes back? Hmmm.... No, I guess not. So, overall I guess I enjoyed it more than it annoyed me. So I guess that's a net boon too.
