If you are a die-hard Gintama fan then you will most likely enjoy this; if not, stay away. It stays true to the feel/mood of the anime and, minus a few of the side characters, is well cast. The definite downside is the extremely fake and sometimes bad acting, but given the source material that they are going off of, it almost doesn't diminish the enjoy-ability. Overall the film comes across as a decent representation of Gintama in spirit, but they lacked hard in the polishing of the films visuals, as is usual in anime adaptions, it is just lucky that Gintama works well with it.

A Manga turned Anime turned into a Film made for Hardcore Gintama fans. Jojo and Love is War were good anime adaptations but Gintama is honestly the best version of a Manga/Anime being put as a film that actually captures the spirit of the source material. - In simple words, the best anime adaptation for fans of Gintama. - If you don't understand anime or manga culture it's a hard sell unless you accept the movie as a comedy based off a comedy show based off a comedy manga series.

As a long time fan of the anime, I appreciate this movie so much and can't wait to see the second. The small things they got right made it worth the adaptation, and I very much loved how they handled Elizabeth. It had me pausing to laugh myself stupid several times. This is definitely worth the money.
