Delft, Holland 1665. Seventeen-year-old Griet must work to support her family and becomes a maid in the house of Johannes Vermeer, where she gradually attracts the master painter's attention. Johannes and Griet must hide their inspiration of each other from his volatile wife Catharina. The wealthy and troublemaking Master van Ruijven senses the intimacy between the artist and his maid and contrives a commission for Vermeer to paint Griet alone. The result will be one of the greatest paintings ever created, but at what cost?

Great movie and acting. It's showing the reality of rich and less fortunate people. I love art and like to learn about life at "other" (1665) time and it gives me a chance to refresh on Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer.

Girl With A Pearl Earring is a beautiful look into that painting and a possible story behind it that is really crazy. The costume design is awesome, and the look of the 1600s plays well. Johannson gives a pretty good performance but I like other performances from her more such as The Nanny Diaries and Marriage Story. The acting in general is pretty well. The hair and makeup also does it's key role here. The younger people act very well in this. I reccomend it!

wish i could give zero stars bought the rental and its not playing the movie but instead kerps replaying a 2 minute preview. what a waste people please be careful on this site.
