Coppola nous raconte deux histoires dans Le Parrain 2 : les origines et la conquête du jeune Don Vito, incarné à merveille par Robert De Niro et l’ascension de Michael (Al Pacino) dans le rôle du nouveau Don. Rassemblant plusieurs personnages-clés qui ont participé au succès du Parrain, Coppola a produit un film bouleversant par sa grandeur et son caractère visionnaire, et indéniablement la meilleure suite jamais réalisée. Robert De Niro fut lauréat de l’Oscar® du Meilleur Second Rôle, et le film reçut 6 Oscars® dont celui du Meilleur Film en 1974.
