Following an emergency landing on a deserted island in the Pacific, young pilots, Tsukioka and Kobayashi, stumble into an epic clash between Godzilla and the monster, Anguirus. The giant beasts drag their battle into the ocean and soon resurface in Osaka, laying waste to the city in a fight to the death. As the threat of destruction mounts, Tsukioka and Kobayashi muster their courage for a final showdown with Godzilla.

First I'll let you know that this is only an English dubbed version. I was trying to watch it in Japanese in the options, but it only gave me English. The English dubbing is as bad as you'd expect. They even have Godzilla's roar wrong. The story isn't too bad, but it strays from the tone of Gojira. The monster battle came off more as silly, but it's not as bad as some of the others from the 60's and 70's.

Unengaging and slow. I recognize that Motoyoshi Oda was given less than a year to make this film, but even so, 'Godzilla Raids Again' is a sequel that is inferior to its predecessor in every way. The suitmation and puppetwork is not up to par with that of the '54 film, the score is absent for large portions of the film, and when it's there, it's really sad. The thematic and emotional components of the original 'Gojira' are what make it an all-time great, although the haunting and epic destruction of Tokyo certainly doesn't hurt. 'Raids' lacks any such elements, and the film suffers greatly for it. The human cast is dull as a box of rocks, and the themes, if it can even be said that this movie has such things, don't extend beyond the opening. If one is looking for early kaiju vs. kaiju action, check out 'King Kong vs. Godzilla' or 'Mothra vs. Godzilla'. Give this one a miss unless you're a Godzilla completist.

Underrated sequel that gets hate just because it was released 5 months after the original. I feel that this has some of the most realistic monster fights. They are staged less like wrestling matches and more chaotic like how animals in the wild actually fight. The black and white cinematography is excellent and the effects are better than most 60s and 70s Godzilla flicks.
