Certainly one of my favourite Bond films that surpasses the plot from the book though in many ways remains faithful to the original story, certainly in terms of dialogue and one liners. For the time, this was still produced on a relatively modest budget (3M USD) and although included some beautiful scenes of Switzerland, was primarily filmed in England. Sir Sean Connery is notably even more comfortable as 007, he exudes style and self assurance and continues to build on the character of Bond. When I read the books I always think of Sean.

The quintessential Bond film, with writing proving to be the finest example of the art of adaptation with a plot far superior to the book. For instance, it employs a villainous scheme that turned a tired cliche of robbing Fort Knox into a genuinely ingenious scheme, while Bond's gadgets have beautifully passed the test of time. With all those qualities, this film's fame as the greatest of the Bond films is secure.

Over hyped and overrated for new Bond fans such as myself, Goldefinger, while still very good, just does not truly grasp that "Bond film for all to follow" feeling that every Bond fan talks about. This is my second viewing after many years and it is still "OK."
