Henry Hill, es un aspirante a mafioso que intenta abrirse camino junto a sus amigos, Jimmy Conway y Tommy De Vito, en la difícil jerarquía de la mafia. Para ello deben dar varios golpes, introduciéndose en negocios cada vez más peligrosos. Finalmente Henry termina en el programa de protección de testigos del FBI después de testificar en contra de sus antiguos socios.
