I saw this movie when it came out in theaters and I plan on buying it as well. While the story is fairly simple, it's executed extremely well. The film is constantly moving, taking the viewer from event to event, ensuring that there is never a dull moment. I thought Jack Black gave a fun performance and the the two leads are good as well. There is a twist at the end that didn't quite work for me, otherwise, it's a great, fun movie.

For middle grades kids, this is probably a great movie. As an adult, it was entertaining, but not really exciting. Jack Black does a great job, though, and the monsters are kinda creepy! Our teenaged kids enjoyed seeing the Goosebumps monsters 'come to life' but were too old to really get into the story. I didn't expect rave reviews from our group, given our ages, but it wasn't a bad movie.

A pretty good taste of the 'Goosebumps' universe and probably the best monster film that you could watch with young children. Yes, there are a few fake out jump scares and some of the monsters/scenes can feel menacing, but it never crosses the line into horror. No one dies, the only blood you see is when someone gets a small cut on their head, no gore, no swearing, and no sorcery/magic casting (the magic is more Twilight Zone like). Needs less lens flare though.
