Walt Kowalski, Veteran des Koreakrieges, ist alles andere als erfreut, als eine koreanische Familie in seine einst allamerikanische Nachbarschaft zieht, die zunehmend unter Gangproblemen und Verbrechen leidet. Zunächst scheinen sich all seine Vorurteile zu bestätigen, doch als deren Tochter belästigt und deren Sohn eines Nachts von einer Gang angegriffen wird, schreitet Walt ein. Genug ist genug. Clint in absoluter Hochform. So traurig das Ende des Films auch sein mag.. Der Charme und der Witz des Films wird durch Clint Eastwood und all den anderen Mimen in himmlische Sphären getragen. Der Friseur ist der absolute Brüller. Ich habe den Film schon so oft gesehen das ich ihn auswendig gelernt habe. Aber trotz allem schau ich ihn immer wieder gerne. Clint Eastwood ist der Größte Schauspieler unseres Jahrhunderts /Jahrtausends. Es gibt keinen der ihm das Wasser reichen kann. Matthias Sitzle

Grumpy tough cynical grandpa with strong xenophobic attitude and haunted by his military past gets befriended by young asian girl and her family; more or less against his will. Half of the movie is about him opening up and overcoming his bias. When the inevitable disaster strikes the family, it's Dirty Harry to the rescue. Regarding the general themes, Gran Torino is nothing new. But the acting of all the characters is very solid and the dialogues are often hilarious and very politically incorrect. While the plot is quite predictable for most of it's parts, I did not expect the ending. Both, Kowalsky's actions and Eastwood's movie past, deceived me here. Well done.
