From Marvel, the studio that brought you Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy—in an action-packed, epic space adventure that expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos.
If Guardians of the Galaxy is an origin story, it is also a satire of the origin story, one that emphasizes the power of the "We" over that of the "Chosen One."
Blessed with a loose, anarchic B-picture soul that encourages you to enjoy yourself even when you're not quite sure what's going on, the scruffy Guardians is irreverent in a way that can bring the...
The lightly derisive, live-action-cartoon tone robs the movie of any majesty, even of the comic-book type, and the many violent deaths of their suitable gravity.
J. R. Jones
These meager pleasures are swallowed up in all the frantic action and overblown CG sequences.
Chris Pratt, overflowing with charisma, plays the leader of the pack of misfits, and his blissed-out space cowboy (with a love for seventies music) is so full of good will that he buoys the film...
Director and co-writer James Gunn brings a giddiness and a wondrous, endless sense of why-the-hell-not? possibility that's reminiscent of Star Wars.
If Guardians of the Galaxy is an origin story, it is also a satire of the origin story, one that emphasizes the power of the "We" over that of the "Chosen One."
Best casual scifi since 5th Element #1 for the me in 2014. Never pegged Peter for the big screen, but I'm seeing the long term strategy concerning future tie-ins across the Marvel universe in cinema. The soundtrack on that blasted walkman takes #1 for, oh, let's say the last DECADE, especially when matching the melodies and lyrics to onscreen moments (Escape was pure art). I've seen some disappointing alterations from canon in a few past Marvel films, but their screenplay spin on Guardians is not only welcome, but much needed to get us back to the table on accepting future changes. Take it from someone who's been #TeamMarvel since the 80's, this goes in your collection.
Good Movie But Bad Visual Quality The Movie itself is very good as the Rotten Tomato reviews will attest to but the quality of the actual image as brought to you by Google leaves much to be desired. This may look good on a small tablet or your phone but put it on anything bigger and you'll really start to notice the compression artifacts and lack of detail. It also looks like they added a half pixel blur to help reduce the bandwidth for playback over the internet reducing the quality even more. Don't bother watching this on anything above 720p as you won't get any more detail out of the footage. If you plan on watching this on a bigger screen than a tablet, do yourself a favor and just get the Blu-Ray with the digital copy. You'll get a much better quality movie and you'll probably spend the same or less for it.
720p - letterbox - stream only Do you love paying $22 for a digital movie that starts off in 240p for 5min before getting to an amazing 720p quality? Then you will love buying movies off of the google play store. I know this movie is pretty recent and one would expect for it to be in 1080p and in a standard aspect ratio like 16:9, so it fits your TV. But this movie is in letterbox and goes as high as 720p, but honestly who cares? It's not like you can really tell the difference between 720 and 1080 or the fact that half of your TV is black bars on top and bottom. Those are pretty insignificant things for viewing quality. I loved that I got this at such a high resolution on a service that performs half as good as Hulu or Netflix. If I could trade this digital movie back to google for $5 even though I just spent $22 on it, I wouldn't. I would give it back for free just because of how amazing they are!!
Asus Google Nexus 7 (2012) Is it just me, or does HellyWood repeatedly shove the same Racially-biased sexual scenarios at us. Caucasian male and Minority Female become sexually intimate (to one degree or another). It's really stale, Hollywood. Seriously. Change things up a bit. Have a backbone. You know how it works. If you shove anything at people often enough, they WILL buy into it. Have some balls, Disney. You obviously do, when it comes to snapping up any and every successful franchise in existence. 😕
One of my Favorite movies of 2014 I'll admit, when Marvel announced this movie, I had no clue who the Guardians were. But when I saw the first trailer, I was blown away. I was fortunate enough to see it in an IMAX theater in 3D, and I couldn't stop marveling(pun intended) over the movie. From the killer soundtrack to the snarky attitude of some of the characters, this movie had me "Hooked On a Feeling". It felt like Star Wars meets the Avengers, combining the space opera feel with Marvel's trademarks. I'm looking forward to the sequel and where director James Gunn takes it. If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly recommend it to everyone. It stands out from the rest of Marvel's cinematic universe, so you'll be fine if you haven't seen every single Marvel movie before this.
Aaron Palumbo This movie is fun. Best way to describe it, honestly. The characters are memorable, and their back-and-forth banter is funny and great to listen to, with plenty of quotable lines. The CGI is actually surprisingly spectacular. The ships and characters and environments are so rich in detail that it's sometimes hard to distinguish the difference between the green-screen effects and the actual constructed models. This is how CGI was meant to be used. The soundtrack is fantastic, really setting the tone for a movie that balances its tone really well. And the first scene is borderline tear-jerking. And I never cry at movies. Like ever. No really. I don't. Don't look at me like that. Not quite as good as everyone else says, it's not "Star Wars meets Star Trek, Firefly, and Cowboy Bebop." I don't think any movie could be nearly that good, but this movie really is pretty great, and above all, just a good time.
One of the best movies I have ever seen.... Right from the very start it draws you in and from there you find a real happy place and laughter......Rocket and Groot just love them, all the characters are great! 3d copy is great! I own blu ray, regular copy and the download! had to make sure I covered all my gadgets! I can only say this I went in thinking another cheesy movie and came out purchasing the triple pack and the regular! There are not many movies I recommend, but this one sits high on please watch this at least once! This movie brings out the 53 yr old kid in me! I am extremely hard to make laugh, this movie got me quite a few times!
Way Overrated I've never seen a movie this lame, that was also so highly recommended. I'm starting to suspect the comments were rigged. Visually, the effects were decent. As a comedy, it gave our family a few minor laughs. There were also a couple scenes that were emotionally touching. It had it's moments, but most attempts at humor and making a connection were just corny and lame. It's a classically bad, B movie. Watch if you're bored, but don't buy it. Wait till it goes to a $5.00 rental.
Marvel Crushes Again I saw this movie recently and I have to admit I was hesitant because it was so hyped up, after seeing it I can honestly say it was worth the hype and more. This movie is one of the best Marvel movies only behind Captain America The Winter Soldier in my opinion. It is like Star Trek and Star Wars but with more comedic relief and even if it wasn't Marvel it would be a great movie just makes it better that it is Marvel. Can they do anything wrong? I don't want to find out. Way to go Marvel.
Honestly, I didn't think the movie was completely horrible. The CGI was a bit much, the main antagonist was much too overpowered throughout the movie, and the romance in the film was much too typical. There was no build-up to the romance. It was your typical forced romance between two characters. The female heroine was obnoxious and oversexualized. I would also not recommend viewing this as a family. It definitely has more adult-oriented scenes and some swearing that is not intended for younger viewers. It did have highlights, though. The music throughout the movie, both from the soundtrack and the mix tapes, was enjoyable. The characters were lovable, especially Groot and Rocket. I was actually very surprised to find that Groot was played by Vin Diesel, that made me like the character even more than I already had. I rate this 3/5 in hopes that the next movie will be better than this one.
Star Lord's freaking sweet Sony Walkman There is this channel on youtube where these guys do these videos that like pick apart the movies by numbering their flaws or (sins) and like I find the videos really funny they have one for like pretty much every big budget summer blockbuster and like this movie here is immune to them not because it is a perfect movie but because it is so aware of itself that it is not perfect and the most hilarious parts of this movie are when the movie makes fun of itself. Something has to be said about how freaking awesome Star Lord's Sony walkman is. And like the music is so retro freaking-sweet and the characters are really really funny. I got the feeling that like the director and writers really liked the smaller interactions between the characters in Star Wars and like were expressing their opinion that it is like the smaller funny interactions between far out characters that ultimately makes for the best scifi movie. Five Stars Yo.
Was not ready for the epicness of this flick! Marvel absolutely caught me off guard with this one. Was never a fan of the comic but the movie is very well done. All characters fleshed out well and of course, "I am Groot" the catch phrase of the year! I am a fan of any movies with aliens - this is a must have for your Marvel Flick collection. Action, fighting and of course epic blow up scene! Download today!
Genuinely Fun! Maybe it's the contrast against the almost unbearably sad opening scene which propels the rest of the film so high, but from that point on "Guardians of the Galaxy" is non-stop fun. The music is perfect; the characters, both live and created, are consistent and engaging; and the story is just as outrageous as any superhero comic could hope to offer. I expected to enjoy the film, my wife did not but laughed repeatedly while watching it and still quotes from it now and then, an impact few other movies have ever had on her.
Its to immature and not like the comic books Lets start with what I liked. Rocket Racoon has moments that flesh out his character, backstory, and 1 funny moment. Also the way they link sountrack with the main character walkman is clever if you ignore that it would have been brocken a long time ago. Ok thats all I liked. Its one of those movies were the main character is the guy who doesn't know the name of the girl he just had sex with and looks at women as objects. Also huge plot holes and characters that are way more awesome in the old comics.
Not sure why I'm surprised ! I kinda hate to admit it, but Marvel Studios has me in the palm of their hand! They probably really could come out with a movie about a group of feather dusters that fight evil and save the galaxy and I would be ALL IN!!! Great job Marvel and I guess Disney too.
So, so, so good. I gag at space themed stuff like star trek and star wars. This was not a movie I wanted to see. I'm blown away how funny and original it is while still sticking to a tried and true origin story format. Maybe they shouldn't have made the big bad guy purple though.. Kind of the least intimating color..
More fun than it should have been One of the best Marvel movies released so far. Though the bad guy was boring, a one dimensional evil religious zealot alien walking cliche, and the overall plot centered on chasing a Macguffin to save the universe blah blah blah, the characters are funny and so likeable that they make the movie worth watching even though a third of the movie is just exposition for future Marvel movies. This movie doesn't elevate the genre by any means (it's not the "Chinatown" of popcorn scifi adventure movies), but it has a lot of fun playing in George Lucas' toy box—especially Chris Pratt, who deserves a raise for the sequel. Great soundtrack.
Tremendous fun & just what it said on the tin. Read the label! Don't want funny? Don't go. Don't want cheesy heroics, wisecracking leads, hearts of gold? Don't go. Take your doom 'n' gloom "serious" self over to Zack Snyder's Superman. Leave the rest of us your popcorn though, okay :-)
Stop the Negative Comments This Movie was fantastic, I'd watch it a thousand times before I'd get bored of it. Most of the negative comments about this movie are from people who have never read the comics and don't understand why it's not a "Serious Sci Fi film". I would give this movie 10/5.
Too vulgar?!! Seriously?! There is some crude humor here and there, but it's hilarious and brilliantly done. Ppl are way too easily offended, protective, and soft in this country now. Anyways, it's probably my favorite movie in over 15 years. The plot, acting, cgi, the soundtrack and characters; are all friggin awesome. If you think this movie is vulgar then you should probably just never watch anything but G rated movies..
Guardians of the Galaxy This was so much fun. I did not think this looked that great after seeing the previews and I was going th wait to see it on DVD. My nephew talked me into going and didnt tell me it was the IMAX 3D (most expensive ) until we got there. I loved the movie. I have since seen it again and plan on buying the blue ray DVD. I can't wait for number two.
GotG - G2G What can I say? As a fan of previous iterations, I wasn't as familiar with this group. Still loved the movie. It set the tone in the opening sequence and managed to hold it all the way through...
Fun. Fun fun fun fun fun. This has been my favorite superhero or sci fi movie, barring Europa Report of course. in quite a long time. Stunning visuals (I know, how many times can we say that but still!) A wonderful universe chock full with entertaining, charismatic characters a-plenty. And that soundtrack! James Gunn took some inspiration from Tarantino and others to give this film a whole other dimension using the soundtrack. Come for the spectacle and quirky humor, stay for the feels you'll get from hearing these songs effectively sub-titling their accompanying scenes. A+ and I can't wait for the next one.
Now THIS is a Marvel movie I had NEVER heard the name Guardians of the Galaxy until Marvel vs. Capcom 3 came out, because I never read such a comicbook. I had never heard of these characters (except for Rocket Raccoon, who was in MvC3 and whom I thought was a Capcom character) until the trailer for this movie. One day in Columbia, SC, after I came into some money I thought, "What the heck? I'll see this flick in 3-D while I'm here." (I'm from nearby Lexington, BTW.) So I saw it that afternoon. I WAS BLOWN AWAY, to say the least. It would have been just as absolutely wonderful in 2-D, but I had the money, sooooooo.... you know. GET THIS FLICK. WORTHY OF OWNERSHIP. Five stars, hands down.
All battles no fun A lot of loud noise and battle scenes with some good tunes. They over hyped this movie. Should have done more with characters. The good charctersblike tree man and racoon only had minimal lines. Too bad could have been funny.
Could have ended alot more better. For instance maybe show the secret ending from age of ultron therefore making that secret ending alot better. Ps at the end of age of ultron thanoes gets mad abd takes out the infinity gauntlet. And said he'll do it him self
People and critics will hate... If people do not like this movie... MAKE SOMETHING BETTER! I hae watched this movie 7 times now! (I HAVE BEEN COUNTING) and it NEVER gets old! It is so PERFECT on EVERY level! And to all the people that say this movie is bad... Why don't you try to make a movie that millions of people will watch? Or at least give it a three star and say it has flaws! Why don't you give your bad reviews to that wrechet movie that came out.. that would be wayy better! Dang what has The United States come to in movie taste...
Why were folks expecting a dark knight vibe to this movie? It's suppose to be silly. Bradley Cooper is a racoon with a Brooklyn accent. They turned fast n furious Dom into a tree. Y'all knew this before y'all watched the movie and still complain about the campiness? Anyway the flick was funny, sarcastic and the kids liked it.
The funniest superhero movie EVER Another risk taken by Marvel that once again leads to a 93% on rotten tomatoes. Guardians of the Galaxy is another fresh new take on one of marvel's lesser known superhero teams. No xmen or avengers here, your talking to the Guardians. The cast is also amazing. Chris Pratt is the PERFECT man to play Starlord and the prison escape scene is by far the best mcu phase 2 scene ever. This movie is also hillarious and guaranteed to make you choke on your food. This is another enjoyable film for ANYONE 9.9/10
I was expecting a mediumly enchanting movie when I ordered this. It far exceeded my expectations with unexpected mood swings that kept me enraptured far beyond my normal ADD limits. Guardians of the Galaxy is a story that captures the essence of heroism: man is neither all good nor all bad, but a mix of both. The struggle plays out many times in this movie for all of the characters, in each one's unique way. From the sad beginning to the triumphant finale, Guardians of the Galaxy delivers on a promise that is hinted at in the previews: that this is definitely a movie worth watching.
I dare say this is truly an Epic. This movie is one hell of a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. A simple tip. Don't go into it with expectations. Seriously. It helps. That said, with its few flaws, like lack of character development. Yes this movie doesn't do a whole lot of character depth, but what it does do is just enough to help you enjoy the characters. Comedy is good and is placed right, but you might miss some of it if you've lived under a rock. There's comedy for both children and adults. I attribute it to subtle humor.
Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel really did a great job w/ this movie. You do have a few ppl who were disappointed, due to high expectations, but those that gave a bad review concider themselves experts in movie making or comedy, or even Marvel comic historians. Everyones a critic, whether good or bad, they have their own opinions. Mine, however, is that this is one of Marvel's best movies by far. Totally different to be concidered "this generation's Star Wars", but an epic movie w/ lots of potential for multiple sequels. 5 stars!!!
Very childlike & bad plot I'll admit, I'm a little over-critical because I'm a huge Marvel fan but I just wasn't feeling this movie. StarLords costume was all wrong, I feel like all the cast with exception of StarLord was bad. Didn't like the script or story line. The only thing I did enjoy was the appearance of Thanos. Just my .02
Best superhero movie ever made. That is me saying that as a long time fan of mostly the DC universe and Not really caring for any Marvel superheros or licenses. A lot of dumb reviews here from people who liked and disliked the movie. A lot of fanboys getting mad bc its Marvel. A lot of people loving it and criticising all the wrong parts. Fantastic movie. Ignore the fanboys and your preconceptions and you will love this movie.
God this movie. It's just... Oh my god. I watched this movie 6 times already, 4 of them in theatres. I enjoyed every minute of all the times I've seen it cx It may be because Chris Pratt is just so charismatic and wins you over with the charm he puts into being Star Lord... Or the wit that goes into a lot of the lines.. Or the character of Drax and that laugh he has when beating people up.. Or even Rocket, who creates situations that are hilarious. I really, really love this movie, and everyone I dragged to see this movie loved it too.
Awesome! There's only one reason I'm not giving it 5 stars: cheese. Not the literal kind, the cheesy parts near the end. Why does Drax talk about friendship as they're goin aboard the Dark Aster? Other than stuff like that I really like this movie. First one in a long time I watched twice in so few days in between. There's a certain Farscape vibe too, a good thing, with Quill being the sole human character.
What the... Terrible. The movie tried too hard to be something that it wasn't. The humor, at times, was great but overall the plot is boring, and sometimes hard to follow. Marvel usually does incredible work but they failed here. Maybe if it was free and you had no other options then I'd recommend it.
Better than You Expect While there were some flaws, at least to comic fans going back to the 90's (maybe even earlier), and some obvious joke lead-ins, but they made all that easy to overlook. Was going to give three stars, but I gave five because it made me watch a second time to REMEMBER those flaws. I say "Job well done. I definitely recommend watching this movie!"
