Audiences bemoaned the lack of boogeyman Michael Myers in this lonely entry in the Halloween series, but it's actually a very creepy little chiller with a sinister portrayal of avuncular villainy from Dan O'Herlihy and Carpenter regular Tom Atkins as the boozy divorcee who finds himself in way over his head. One of the very few major films to hint at the pagan origins of Halloween as part of its nefarious plot.

This is a great little film, with good performances, a classic Carpenter score, and an original plot. Shame the idea of using annual anthology films to take over the franchise didn't pan out!

I love this movie, but then again I love all of the Halloween films. No Michael Myers in this one but that's no bad thing
