The Sorcerer's Stone had an even bigger job of establishing the Harry Potter world from book to film as a whole. Setting up the entire series before it is even finished in book form was another challenge, and also whittling down a long story that couldn't leave much out (this changes as the book series goes on and as the third film demonstrates so admirably). Still, this first Harry Potter film does a wonderful job of doing all those things fairly well, and sets the stage for greater films to come. The child actors seem like different "little people" in this film compared to the later films, so this movie has more of the distinction of a children's film than the others (which is a good thing). The extended cut does little but add some more length onto an already lengthy film, although they do not detract at all.

Harry Potter books can be difficult reading cuz its so descriptive. This movie gives your child a jump start to imagining the World of Harry Potter. Than if you can hold back on the rest of the mother until they have read the book. For the most part One Book One movie. Does he have that kind of control over what your child watches by the movie's in a bundle. They will likely watch them all.
