James Stewart gives one of his finest performances in this lighthearted film, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Stewart stars as the good-natured Elwood P. Dowd, whose constant companion is Harvey, a six-foot tall rabbit that only he can see. To his sister, Veta Louise (Josephine Hull), Elwood's obsession with Harvey has been a thorn in the side of her plans to marry off her daughter. But when Veta Louise decides to put Elwood in a mental hospital, a hilarious mix-up occurs and she finds herself committed instead. It's up to Elwood to straighten out the mess with his kindly philosophy, and his "imaginary" friend, in this popular classic that features a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award-winning performance by Josephine Hull.

Probably the most pleasant (and likely perpetually inebriated) performance from James Stewart yet. I love the idea of some sweet guy hanging out with a magical (mostly invisible) pooka friend, but this journey kind of goes in circles. Yes, eventually Mr. Dowd's kindness does lead to positive growth for others around him, but how many times do you need to see him introduce himself, his transparent rabbit friend, and give his card to get there? Perfect drinking game movie though. 👌

This is one of my top 10 favorites of all time. "For years I was smart, I recommend pleasant." One of the absolute best lines in a movie/play ever... I love Elwood P. Dowd.

Jimmy Stewart gives an amazing performance in this light-hearted classic. A timeless script that had me emotionally connected to the characters. Just a terrific movie.
