About this movie

Sexual tension spills off the screen in this sweaty, titilating bromance from award-winning director Marco Berger (Absent, Plan B, Sexual Tension - Volatile). Hawaii follows Martin and Eugenio (Manuel Vignau and Mateo Chiarino), two former childhood friends who reunite during a hot summer in the Argentinean countryside. As they work together to restore Eugenio's summer home, a game of power and desire ensues -; forcing the two buddies to grapple with their sexual attraction and reconsider their relationship. With gorgeous cinematography, a lush setting and compelling lead performances, Hawaii is an intimate character study that pushes past social boundaries.

This foreign independent film is like a timeless short story, I watched this in 2019 and it feels relevant. It has a very narrow focus on two strangers and their fateful encounter while mentioning little things about their past, hence the title, and present. The restraint in storytelling makes us intrigued and want to know more who these guys are, where they live and how they will thrive. The direction speaks volumes with minimal effort.

It's annoying that people gave poor ratings because of the trailer. IDIOTS. Go to Amazon for more user reviews. The film is about two guys, Eugenio and Martin and they make up 95% of the film. Its amazing how two characters can carry an entire film. There are a lot of times where nothing was spoken and yet much was conveyed. The dialogues are pretty normal like listening to regular folks having a conversation, at least based on the translation. The two are opposites. One is poor, the other one middle class. Blue collar - Artist. One is homeless, takes a bird bath from a faucet in some abandoned place. The other sleeps on a nice bed and takes hot shower. Simple things that we take for granted. Things that normal people do that you normally don't see in movies anymore. There is much realism in this movie although how it turns up really is like a gay man's dream. But I guess that whats makes the movie cute and very pleasant. It doesn't hurt that the two leads are easy on the eyes. It doesn't have sweeping vistas but the colors and scenes are simple but rich. 4 stars but id give it a five to balance out the fools who didn't even see the movie.
