Matilda tries to help her grandfather, Lucas, who is suffering from Alzheimer's, to navigate his forgetfulness, and ends up going on a remarkable adventure with him.
Bought based on the trailer without checking reviews; my mistake. Trailer gives the appearance of a family-night film but sadly is not. Crude language including at least one "f" word and a pointless overly-dramatic subplot of marital problems made it inappropriate for family. Because of my own family experience with dementia, I was looking forward to a connection with the grandfather character but it didn't feel genuine at times. Acting was very good so I put the blame on script and directing.
That was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I recommend this movie. There was tears of both sadness and gladness. I had no idea that was Nick Nolte's daughter. Sophia is an amazing young actress. I love the build up. The landscape was absolutely stunning. It is good to see that the family came out strong. Meaningful... if anyone tells you it is boring, don't believe them. I feel for those who have to go through Alzheimers. Anyways, I gave it a 5 star because it was well worth it
Having lost a parent to AlzheimerтАЩs I found this a very accurate portrayal of the heartbreaking progression of AlzheimerтАЩs Disease. It captures the darkly humorous moments that do occur along the way. Moments where you shouldnтАЩt laugh but just canтАЩt avoid it. I totally loved the grand daughters relaxed way of letting the old man be. ItтАЩs a lesson in how to relate to someone in that state. I cried and laughed out loud throughout the movie. Lovely story about dealing with loss too.
