À propos de ce film

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter Annie (Toni Colette) and her husband (Gabriel Byrne) and their two children begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

Like a First Year film student just watched Rosemary's Baby and the Omen for the first time got given a large budget and free reign to do whatever they want. Manages to be totally derivative, yet makes no sense at all when you ignore the shock tactics and actually think about the plot. People seem to have been brainwashed by the marketing machine. It isn't scary either.

The only thing scary about this film is how boring it is. Don't be fooled by the hype if you like looong drawn out scenes that drag forever and inconsistent story telling then this is for you. Don't buy this, catch it on Netflix while it's there and you'll be happy you didn't waste your money. If you do want to spend some money, buy the lighthouse by Robert eggars

Having just watched this film I will vouch for the unsettling tone and atmosphere this film projects. I've not been unsettled like this watching a film in a very long time and the third act made me uneasy. [Don't watch this film at night like I did]
