Witches have been one of the greatest symbols of Halloween. In this Halloween movie, the main antagonist is a witch, well, not one, but three witches. This film really captures the spirit of Halloween; you got witches, ominous magic, children go out for trick-or-treating, and there is some weird spookiness indeed. The story is very simple but old-fashioned in the traditional sense of Halloween, the comedy is pretty funny but there is really not much to say about it, Regardless, the movie has some jolly execution with some surprising plot-twists. The main protagonist is Max (Omri Katz), but the problem is he and the rest of the protagonists are just plain; there's nothing to them: no depth, no fleshed-out information, and originality. But, these protagonists are pretty amusing and fun to watch; playing with each other, loving on each other, saving each other, and working together to save Halloween from the three Witches called the Sanderson Sisters and a lot of that has to do with the slick and sly writing and direction. The performances from the actors that play the protagonists are very good too, as they are showing some serious acting, providing some credibility to their performances. But at the end of the day, I actually find the protagonists relatively forgettable and I even forget their names which is pretty sad, But the main antagonists (the Sanderson sisters) are very memorable. Winnie is the eldest of the trio which makes her the leader. Mary is the most caring of the sisters, and Sarah the youngest, and she is the most flirtatious. The Sanderson sisters in particular are scary in their own way, and the actresses that played these witches delivered overly theatrical performances that are whimsical and oddly campy. But the movie does get way out of hand and over the top with it's goofiness and camp, especially when we see what happens when the sisters enter the real human society and it seems a little forced and awkward. and just like the protagonists, they are just plain, they don't have depth either, but they are actually fleshed out, so I will give them that. This movie in particular strikes a balance between serious and campy, now that seems pretty fun and fascinating. I did enjoyed the film but there is really not that much to say about it and it's pretty over the top with it's silliness and awkwardness like Jim Carry, but at least the filmmakers are not responsible for the plagiarism of the outrageous comedic style of Jim Carry. In conclusion: Hocus Pocus has nothing inside, but has lots on the outside, and it's all goofy campy fun that relishes in simplicity. Recommended.

They should continued a sequel from there ! Making the sanderson sisters put spells on max's bullies jake Ernie aka "ICE" into Warlocks then still try to retrieved the BOOK then only to ressurect whiney after her magic neclace strouded into the cemetery near billys grave then it defenitley be vengence in all of Salem. Damn Disney Industries probebly didnt had a person back then with no brain of a so call idea. I would say year 1996 Hocus Pocus 2 i have so much more ideas into this

First time i saw it i was 6 years old 1995 , now i rewatch it again 2020 Halloween nights after 25 years in 4K HDR Dolby Vision , i felt kid again loool , great and simple movie , back days Disney was great storytelling not political or trying to make children think of gender like in nowadays , i hope the sequel will be same good storytelling as the first one , the sequel to the 1993 Halloween with same cast as the 3 witches and it's pre production right now .
