I Am is the story of a successful Hollywood director, Tom Shadyac, who experiences a life threatening head injury, and his ensuing journey to try and answer two very basic questions: "What's wrong with our world?" and "What can we do about it?" With a film crew of four, Tom visits some of today's great minds, including authors, poets, teachers, religious leaders, and scientists (Howard Zinn, Lynn McTaggart, Desmond Tutu, Thom Harmann, Coleman Barks) searching for the fundamental endemic problem that causes all of the other problems, while simultaneously reflecting on his own life choices of excess, greed and eventual healing. What if the solution to the world's problems was right in front of us all along?

A third of the way into this documentary and all of a sudden, out of nowhere a completely random clip of an eye getting sliced open with a scalpel and goo coming out of it? WTF! There are some great ideas in this documentary but Tom is a terrible documentary maker. Its mostly filled with bad quality / badly cut stock footage. The documentary conversation is scattered and does not flow. Tom are you listening - that eye scene is totally offensive and bizare. Stick to making holywood crap and fund someone who knows the art of documentary to make it on your behalf.

It portrays the truth and the sense of absence we at times seem to be finding in the wrong places. Something worth watching
