Another "Van Helsing: i have a mortgage to pay bollocks." The supposed plot makes no sense. Love Bill Nighy, but he and Harvey Dent are wasted in this CGI shambles. You can tout "Underworld," but without a leather-bedecked Kate Beckinsdale, it's a moot point. And there is no Scott Speedman as "I am a normal person swept up in this madness" to identify with. The creature-protagonist just seems to pout and scowl a lot. The creature, and possibly Eckhart, just needs to get laid.

Mary Shelley, writing in the original story, had the monster say "I am malicious because I am miserable." Perhaps this is why the monster has evolved in popular culture to be transcendent over the principal character, the so-called Dr. Frankenstein, who has devolved into a nondescript footnote in this modern take. I found this version on the better path frankly and enjoyed watching it for the buried details of its current iteration. Plus great CGI and robust action. Worthy of more consideration.
