Over deze film

In 1960s Poland, a young novitiate nun encounters a long lost relative and discovers a dark family secret dating back to the terrible years of the Nazi occupation.

On the eve of her vows, 18-year old Anna (Agata Trzebuchowska), a sheltered orphan raised in the convent, is tasked by the Mother Superior to visit her sole living relative, her estranged aunt Wanda (Agata Kulesza). A worldly and cynical Communist judge, Wanda shocks the naïve and innocent Anna with a stunning revelation: Anna is Jewish and her real name is Ida. Struggling to make sense of this new information, the two women embark on a heart-wrenching journey to uncover the mystery and fate of Ida's birth parents, leading them to an old family home that holds buried secrets and regrets from the past.

Beautifully directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski (My Summer of Love) and stunningly photographed in arresting black and white, IDA is a masterly and personal evocation of time and defining human moments. A vital and cinematic exploration of postwar Poland, the moral and human costs of survival, and the potential and necessity for progress, IDA eloquently encapsulates the haunting legacy of the Holocaust through Anna/Ida's personal dilemma of how best to carry on in the face of a painful shared history.

Politics, politics, politics... Served in a absolute horrible packages. Acting...you do have people to pretend to be actors, but man they suck. Ida, the main character played by a no talent beginner, whose only "qualification" is a willingness to play naked nun. Whoop, whoop , whoop. The same, unemotional face, in EVERY scene from 0-100. Total emotional eunuch. Directing - Well, Mr. I suck even bigger. the Story: The new wave of history revisionism: Nagasaki was USA fault. Holocaust was NOT German, Polish creation, and the thousands of Jews that WERE saved through this horrible ordeal were saved by ... good ... no such thing in this "historical" movie. Oh yeah, there is an interesting character which is actually based on a real person, a commie Jew prosecutor (who to this day is shelter by UK) played as Bloody Wanda. Jewish organizations are NOT happy about this little p.c. oops, so I am certain.... Spielberg is NOT going to vote for this movie. (and he shouldn't) Movie is NOT black and white. It is in Sepia in 1x1 format (this is what Amazon Prime shows in), and it is the best feature of the movie. Seriously. It looks horrible on any 1080p screen, but still, Interestin

Hi, Two deeply traumatized people share the same past but cope in opposite ways. A lot of religious imagery. Excellent cinematography. Interesting tidbits about Polish culture. Thanks. God bless. Aaron

- absolute marvel among currently served commercial film productions. One of the most beautiful and meaningful movie I have seen. Stunning camera work in black-white environment. In some way it resembles some of the most powerful movies made by Krzysztof Kieslowski.
