From Mike Judge, one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, and Office Space, comes an outrageous sci-fi comedy that'll make you think twice about the future of mankind. Meet Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson). He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. But when a government hibernation experiment goes awry, Bowers awakens in the year 2505 to find a society so dumbed-down by mass commercialism and mindless TV programming that he's become the smartest guy on the planet. Now it's up to an average Joe to get human evolution back on track! Filled with razor-sharp sarcasm and outrageous sight gags, Idiocracy will make you laugh out loud whether you're an absolute genius or a complete idiot!

A movie that's comedy is so highbrow stupid it probably went well over the heads of most. It paints the future world of humans (most specifically, stupid Americans) as blindingly dumb and commercial. Maybe it hit a nerve with most folks out there, but I thought it was hysterical.

I saw it when it came out in 2006. I laughed. I thought it was hysterical. A month after watching it, I was out with my husband at a pool. A 20's something derelict chick with minimal teeth was bragging about having 6 kids while slugging back some rum. Hubby and I both agreed it was Idiocracy in motion!Fast forward to 2022. It's still hilarious, but shocking how stupid people are in the film. The scary thing is that it has literally become a documentary. Sadly, we won't make it to the year 2505.

The first time I saw this movie, I couldn't laugh. It was too prescient, too real, and too frightening. It was the Bush era, and the overtones were realistic and sad. Now, we have a reality TV star who was a wrestler and in a porn flick in the Whitehouse. I thought it would take longer than one presidency. Judge's brilliance is in that he accurately portrays the future through the lens of low-brow satire; what it is is a roasting of the most frustrating elements of our culture taken to their logical extension. After three times, I can laugh. But it still hurts.
