Au cours de sa carrière toujours très productive, Judd Apatow a offert à de nombreux jeunes comiques leur premier rôle majeur au cinéma. Leur nom: Steve Carell, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Amy Schumer et Kumail Nanjiani. Cet été, c'est au tour de Pete Davidson, un habitué du « Saturday Night Live » depuis 2014, de rallonger la liste de ses protagonistes inadaptés dans une comédie aussi drôle qu'émouvante, se déroulant à Staten Island. Il semblerait que le développement de Scott (Pete Davidson) ait largement été freiné depuis le décès de son père pompier, quand il avait 7 ans. Il en a aujourd'hui 24 et entretient le rêve peu réaliste d'ouvrir un restaurant/salon de tatouage. Alors que sa jeune sœur Claire (Maude Apatow, « Euphoria », 2019), raisonnable et bonne élève, part étudier à l'université, Scott vit toujours au crochet de sa mère infirmière, Margie (Marisa Tomei, récompensée aux Oscars), et passe le plus clair de son temps à fumer de l'herbe, à traîner avec ses potes Oscar (Ricky Velez, « Master of None », 2015), Igor (Moises Arias, À DEUX MÈTRES DE TOI, 2019) et Richie (Lou Wilson, « The Guest Book », 2017-18) et à sortir en cachette avec son amie d'enfance Kelsey (Bel Powley, « The Morning Show », 2019). Mais quand sa mère commence à fréquenter Ray (Bill Burr, « F Is for Family », 2015-18), un pompier volubile, Scott va voir sa vie chamboulée et ses angoisses exacerbées. L'adolescent attardé qu'il est resté va enfin devoir faire face à ses responsabilités et au deuil de son père. Avec également Steve Buscemi dans le rôle de Papa, un pompier chevronné qui prend Scott sous son aile, et Pamela Adlon (« Better Things », 2016-20) dans le rôle de Gina, l'ex-femme de Ray. THE KING OF STATEN ISLAND est réalisé par Judd Apatow (CRAZY AMY, 2015 ; EN CLOQUE, MODE D'EMPLOI, 2007 ; 40 ANS, TOUJOURS PUCEAU, 2005) d'après un scénario de Judd Apatow, Pete Davidson et Dave Sirus (« Saturday Night Live », 2015-16). Le film est produit par Judd Apatow via sa société Apatow Productions et par Barry Mendel. Ensemble, ils ont été cités à l'Oscar du meilleur film pour THE BIG SICK (Michael Showalter, 2017) et MES MEILLEURES AMIES (Paul Feig, 2011), et ont également produit 40 ANS, MODE D'EMPLOI, 2012 ; CRAZY AMY et FUNNY PEOPLE, 2009, tous trois réalisés par Judd Apatow.

Watched on a different platform and I loved it! The whole cast was incredible. It gave really good insight into Pete's life w/o being too biographical. And too the people giving it one stars without seeing it y'all are dumb. You do realize the reason for it being $20 is because it home theatre release. Many theatres are still closed and everyone involved in making this movie still need to make money somehow. It still significantly cheaper than going to the movies and buying popcorn and a drink.

Amazing movie. Pete's character and personality are amazing. Definitely worth the watch in my opinion. Dont listen to the negative reviews. It's only 5 bucks to see it for yourself. I loved it and so did many others. I watched this with 6 people and they all agree its a great movie. His character is awkward and cringy and that honestly adds a lot of mood and emotion to the movie. It really puts into perspective what a tragedy can do to a person.

I am on my 25th anniversary celebratory weekend - got married in '95. And my husband and I just watched this movie. He picked it out and it hit the spot. I'll leave it here because there were so many things that reminded of us of our time together, including the connections to 9/11, our admiration for Marisa Tomei and Steve Buscemi, and discussions about Judd Apatow. It gave us positive thoughts and memories. For this I say thank you.
