I hate to say the book is better but, considering the main character didn't actually live to tell the story himself and it was priced together via interviews with people Alex met on his journey, I had a hard time taking the movie seriously. The cinematography is wonderful and the acting is solid. I just had some personal reservations about the way it seemed to glorify going out into the Alaskan wilderness completely unprepared.

Penn's direction and Hirsch's powerful acting, boosted by a great script and developed secondary characters, combine to create one of the most moving cinematic accomplishments of our time. It provides an ideological thesis that is revised and revisited throughout the movie until the finale, and what is left is something truly to amazing. One of my very favorite movies.

This film was so impacting. While Hirsch was, as some have said, suffering from naiveté, to me he was very idealistic. While reality takes it toll on us, it is important to get stray from manner which we impact this earth and how we are also impacted by it. Performances were great throughout the movie, Penn's directing was spot on and Eddie Vedder's soundtrack brought so much to the film. Great experience overall!!
