A brilliant film, glorious in its direction, cinematography and production. Penn has been able to bring a very faithful movie adaptation to the screen here, as he does with most things, love him or hate him the guy is a talent. The subject matter is open to enterpretation however. Mccandless was not just stupid, he was also terribly selfish however the nomadic life appeals to some, personally I thought he suffered due to lack of sense. Still a wonderful film if only to present a rather silly boys journey

A moving tale about a foolish pseudo-philosopher dying in the woods because of basic mistakes which, if he had done any relevant reading, would have been avoided. Penn really captured the guys idiocy, probably due to personal experience with the affliction.

Loosely based on a true story of a youth rebelling against conformity and family woes, following a nomadic lifestyle using bushcraft survival skills which ultimately become his downfall. Soundtrack provided by the great Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam.
