关于此电影

Behind ever great man there lies a teacher, and this was certainly true of Bruce Lee, who claimed as his mentor a martial arts expert named Ip Man (1893-1972). A genius of Wushu (or the Chinese martial arts school), Ip Man (Donnie Yen) grew up in a China nearly ripped to pieces by racial hatred, nationalistic strife and warfare. He rose like a phoenix above these ashes, however, courtesy of his participation in matches against various Wushu masters and kung-fun warriors - ultimately training martial arts icons such as Bruce Lee. This biopic from director Wilson Yip dramatizes Ip's life story.

Donnie Yen is an incredible martial arts actor. This movie is loosely based on the life of Master Ip, a humble man whose philosophy of martial arts fighting and the positive lessons one can gain from them were ahead of thier time,, like the earlier grandmaster film from Wong Kar Wai, and like Grandmaster it does overdo the myths of Ip's life, but Yen makes up for it with kung fu moves that are incredibly fast. He is inspiring in a way the late Bruce Lee was, and in a dozen ways Lee was not. Kung fu fans should give this man a try.

I loved the action and the history. Was very interesting to see propaganda from another cultural point of view. Thought the subtitles where a little off though. The words and the actions didn't sync up in places, but very enjoyable.

I avoid martial arts movies. I'm more of a rom com or drama kind of a girl. But even I have to admit this is a great movie. Ip man won me over a few years ago with his integrity and impressive fighting. Maybe the fact that it's based on a true story of the man who trained Bruce Lee is what secured this as one of the few action films I enjoy to rewatching.
