Rogers and Clarke (Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman) are two inept songwriters, down on their luck and desperate for money. Taking the advice of their shifty agent, the duo are whisked off on a tour of the mystical republic of Ishtar. On their arrival, our heroes are separately recruited into spying for opposing sides of a planned revolution, while simultaneously vying for the attention of a gorgeous female freedom fighter (Isabelle Adjani). But Clarke and Rogers make worse spies than they do songwriters, and soon they're left stranded in the desert with only a blind camel and several CIA assassins for company. This is a classic. It's one of those cult favorites, you either think it's hilarious that Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty ride a blind camel into a sandstorm, or you don't. You either think it's hilarious that Dustin Hoffman sings, "I'm Leaving Some Love In My Will" to an aging couple on they anniversary, or you don't. There are definitely some slow spots, but when my family gets together, inevitably one of these songs are sung and that's because we all think it's hilarious.

I play this at least once a year and more often if I need cheering up. It's one of the all-time greats. We have all the funniest lines memorized.

I've got five... stars for this film. This treat is worth trying and buying. Our family grew up with this film and never laughed harder with them than at this wonderful sappy, romantic, explosive comedy
