Back when I was a 9 year-old boy, my older sister went to Japan for a year as an exchange student with AFS. I missed her deeply, but she returned, with gifts and stuff. Later, she became a full professor of Japanese, while I learned that nothing is more valuable than a good dog -- two of them kept me company back then and I'm curled up with the one I have now. Life is good. Watch this movie. You will want to buy it later. Trust me.

I'm not going to write this review claiming to be a HUGE Wes Anderson fan or anything, but I might be here pretty soon. This is only the 2nd film of his I've seen, the first being The Grand Budapest Hotel. Both films have blown me away. Wes Anderson's directorial style and vision, while not for everyone, is so unique, quirky, and just downright beautiful. Isle of Dogs has everything. Laughs, sad moments, happy moments, action, incredible visuals, a stellar voice acting cast, an incredible soundtrack, and a story that will grip you from start to finish. This movie won't be for everyone, but please give it a chance.

I couldn't get past the 30 minute mark. It's stylish, and I tend to like stop-motion, but this movie's style is just too.. weird for me. So many odd stylistic choices that just distracted me. The story was easy enough to follow, but quickly felt pretty generic, making everything seem like style over substance. I see this movie is mostly praised, but I just don't.. get it. Maybe this movie just isn't for me. Glad it was only a rental
