Craig is a high-school junior, in the gifted program, infatuated with his best friend's girl. When he realizes he's suicidal, he checks himself into the psychiatric ward of a hospital, thinking they'll do an observation, help him, and send him home in time for school the next day. Once in, however, he must stay for a week; the juvenile ward is being renovated, so he's in with adults as well as a few youths. Bobby, a man with a young daughter, shows him around; Craig notices Noelle, about his age. He tries to keep his friends from finding out where he is. Little things: he draws, goes to therapy, sings, helps Bobby rehearse an interview

I personally LOVED the novel and couldn't put it down, but the movie just completely watered it down and ruined the story. Noelle had scars all over her face in the book, which was a huge part of who she was, and in the movie she maybe had to little cuts on her cheek. They take this kids depression and instead of actually showing it as depression as they do in the novel, they just make it seem like some dumb stressed out kid when it's MUCH more than that.

This movie was excellent and should be shown in high schools. Currently I am in college about to graduate with my Bachelor's of Veterinary Science; Clinical Medicine. Many of my friends with aspirations of Vet school are stressed and some have turned to prescriptions for anti-anxiety. It is ashame to see great people crack under pressure. I feel movies such as this can help show people while you panic about tomorrow, today is passing by.

This movie actually puts things in perspective. Just when you think you've got it bad, this film shows you that it could be a lot worse, and one shouldn't take for granted the few positive things in life.
