Über diesen Film

Is college worth the cost? Groundbreaking filmmaker Andrew Rossi (Page One: Inside the New York Times) asks the critical question about the value of higher education, revealing how colleges have come to embrace a business model that often promotes expansion over quality learning. With escalating tuition rates and student-loan debt now over the one trillion dollar mark, the once-great American institution is at a breaking point. Ivory Tower explores the current education crisis from the halls of Harvard, to community colleges, to online learning, providing an astonishing look at the university landscape.

I think this documentary really changes my paradigm about the U.S. education system and will do the same to a lot of people. I've never been in a U.S. education system but I've sure heard a lot about it and even been dreaming to experience one. Also, debt I believe is really a universal problem these days, although it may be more apparent in the education 'market'. So, I hope this documentary could be a trigger to a movement that will change how the economy works, especially in the education area.

sorry if my memory of this movie is wrong: the problem with this movie is that they address the cause of rising costs aka the schools competing with each other "I put in a lazy river you put in laser tag" which is why the price of the education goes up.but they also don't address tenure and the student loan program. tenure is the reason you now spend 2 years taking gen eds because of all the professors in those fields that no one takes classes for, so they need to be payed somehow. and the student loan program basically give the universities the ability to spend whatever they want because the government will just sign the check.

Well made. A bit dated now. Didn't really explore in depth the financing of higher education, the corrupting of for-profit institutions, the rat race of prestigious institutions, poorly paid and overworked adjuncts, etc
