I've just read through several reviews and I wonder why people bother watching movies if they're just gonna pick them apart from scene one...? My review comes from someone who has not read the books that all the haters/pseudo intellectuals refer to as they compare written work to visual storytelling... I know of only ONE movie that measures equally to it's book: ROSEMARY'S BABY. I digress, sorry... For those who can allow themselves to be ENTERTAINED by a movie (rather than dump on it, in hopes of...? what? being recognized as a critic?) Jack Reacher was a good time, especially the 1st viewing! I personally LMAO watching the Keystone Cop-like scenes, like when the two dopey guys came after Jack & kept blowing their attack with stupidity. The supporting roles were excellent, well cast & well acted. Tom Cruise seems to draw a WHOLE LOT of male criticism for his HEIGHT, of all things...and here I always thought the "Short Man Complex" was attached to the short guy - NOT all those JEALOUS of him...? I, for one, could care less how tall the actors are! MOST of Hollywood is an illusion...if you're one who watches a movie to find something ELSE to be negative about, then skip this one, you don't deserve it, but if you actually LIKE movies, see Jack Reacher! Robert Duvall's flawless performance made J.R. an even more enjoyable experience...

A Mystery/Thriller that lacks both mystery and thrills. There's nothing keeping you watching; I had to watch the movie over two nights, it became so boring. The plot really goes nowhere. It takes them two hours to discern something the audience knew from the first scene: the whole thing was a setup. That isn't a spoiler. First scene of the movie, we're shown one person committing a crime, and another getting blamed. All that's left is two hours of canned and unnatural dialog, with 0 character development.

Cruise is the wrong person if you are already a Reacher fan, which I am. He just cannot fit or fill the bill. If you just want to enjoy an action movie, and do not already know the Reacher character or can put him aside, Cruise does an OK, even good job. My rating is an attempt to use the "put him aside" method.
