In this version, a traveling troupe performs the rock opera in the Israeli desert. Texas rocker Ted Neeley stars as Jesus with Carl Anderson as Judas. Webber, Andre Previn and Herb Spencer shared an Oscar nomination for Best Score Adaptation.
