As the eponymous ex-con, Nicolas Cage gets grizzly in this Southern-set film by David Gordon Green. Tye Sheridan, who was wonderful in Jeff Nichols' 2012 "Mud," co-stars as a teen whose troubled home life stirs something in Joe that changes both of their lives. Fans of old Nicolas Cage, back before he was a larger-than-life personality, will be happy to see him dig into this dark, violent drama.

The One Word I say is for at the end… Joe saved the kid from his (Joe's) own past and present fate(s). Film pulled on heart-strings as for the-drunk-abusing-male in households happens every night & day across U.S. if we as country look from outside within we would invade here faster than 1st Gulf War !! This movie had some very original and realistic acting. It wasnt over or underacted by anyone. i really enjoyed the movie for what it was and felt bad for the boy who had such a good heart for living in and with such poor up bringings. Joe knew this and did everything and eventually gave everything he knew and had to give this boy and his sister a better future
