About this movie

A gripping mix of friendship, violence and redemption erupts in the contemporary backwoods of the South in this adaptation of Larry Brown's novel, celebrated at once for its grit and its deeply moving core. Directed by David Gordon Green (Prince Avalanche, Pineapple Express, Undertow, All The Real Girls), the film brings Academy Award®-winner Nicolas Cage back to his indie roots in the title role as the hard-living, hot-tempered ex-con Joe Ransom, who is just trying to dodge his instincts for trouble -- until he meets a kid (Tye Sheridan - Tree of Life, Mud) who awakens in him a fierce and tender-hearted protector. Really enjoyed watching this movie from start to finish. Glad I've got it in my library, as I'll be watching this again one day. Good comeback by Nicholas Cage... He's on form and performs really well. I expected more fighting in this and yet I don't feel let down, because I never got bored or lost interest at any part of the movie. Go ahead and hit the play button.

Joe has been a good mate from the moment I met him he has always been very supportive. The only reason im not giving him 5 stars is that I shot him in the foot with a bb gun and he got mad at me, so sorry joe but you will never be as good as kezza

Joe is a good film that captures a story and resonates with people that enjoy a piece of art that has a soul. Rather than the usual crap that has action and no substance. Reminded me of Winter's Bone, another good film, so if you like a story that has some emotional intelligence you will like this.
