About this movie

Actor Frank Whaley (SWIMMING WITH SHARKS) makes his writing/directing debut with this unflinching, loosely autobiographical look at Joe Henry (Noah Fleiss), a sensitive but tough working class kid who struggles valiantly to survive the colossal road blocks fate has placed in his path. The star-studded cast features Val Kilmer as Joe's drunken, abusive father, John Leguizamo as a cynical busboy at the local greasy spoon, Karen Young as Joe's burnt-out mom and Ethan Hawke as his inept guidance counselor. With shattering honesty and unforgettable characters, JOE THE KING will command a permanent place in your heart.

When I heard about this movie (Netflix) I looked at the box art and thought it looked like a good movie to check out. The movie deals with a lot of the hardships these two brothers go through in dealing with being broke, having abusive parents, and just living in an environment that does not care about them. With all that in mind, the main character turns to a life of crime, and with that, the consequences build up to the point where he wishes he never did what he did. All in all I really enjoyed this movie. It was something that I really have never watched before and I would definitely recommend this to other people who like to watch movies that let you see how the character grow. It had an interesting story that kept me curious as to what might happen next. This is definitely a movie to watch when you want something new and exciting that steps out of your normal movie zone (I like to watch a lot of different genres).
