About this movie

Writer director Taika Waititi, brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother is hiding a young girl in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler, Jojo must confront his naive patriotism.

Comedy to get forward a very positive message that is as timely now as it was back then. It's a different look at the war and from what I can tell pretty based in facts. The progression of the film starts off whimsical as you follow little JOJO looking forward to summer camp and then the ugly reality slowly works in. Funny, powerful, horrificl and we'll told story. My personal current favorite movie.

This movie was hohum. The satire wasn't hard enough, or the seriousness was too silly. It wasn't enough of one or the other. It tried to balance the tone but in the end I think that hurt the film. I would have liked it more if it had gone harder in either direction. Just pick a genre. A lot to like but isn't ever fully let loose.

A fun, quirky engaging movie. Definitely deserved the Oscar for best original script. But...was disappointed with the ending. I could see how it related to the rest of the movie but it still felt like it just petered out.
