Writer director Taika Waititi, brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother is hiding a young girl in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler, Jojo must confront his naive patriotism.

This is a special gem of a film with an all-star cast & a hilarious yet gripping narrative based off of a novel. I love how it handles the absurdity of the Nazis while also portraying the severity of the danger they presented to some of the characters. Taika Waititi's Hitler was a gr8 example of the themes in this movie as well as further exposing the desperate/absurd desire for control over the youth & general public. Jojo was performed phenomenally, it's most definitely worth the watch!

I saw this in our local theater and went on the last day it was showing. Sunday afternoon and I usually see about a dozen people in the place. It must of gotten around our small town of 8000 , the place was at least 75% full. There were parts I couldn't hear because people were laughing so hard. Me too. I will rent it just so I can replay some of the dialogue. WWII through the eyes of a young German boy who wants to be patriotic to his country. Doesn't take long for him to see the lunacy of war.

So it isn't all that funny... But whenever it tries to be emotionally engaging, it ruins it with an unfunny joke... It should have been either more serious, or more funny. I honestly don't understand how anybody thought it was a good movie. I'm not offended by it; I've seen so many nazi jokes, Hitler raps, etc... Problem is the movie expects the viewer has never seen a conedic take on Nazis before, so it assumes you'll laugh at anything about Nazis being silly... I wish it was funnier.
